A return to very old stomping grounds last Sunday with a trip to Ruislip in Middlesex, where I lived until the age of five. The focus of our visit was Manor Farm and it’s farmers market, held in the cathedral space of the Great Barn (circa 1300). The warm spring sun brought out large numbers to the market, all royally entertained with lambs to stroke, face painting and some wonderful local produce. We came away with honey, wholemeal soda bread and strawberry plants, and explored the recently restored Farmhouse. We drank in the deep history of the area through the exhibition within, overlaid with personal history of place and name, then meandered home via Northwood along roads of childhood memory.
