Spoonbills at Titchwell

As an hors d’oeuvre to a three night stay in Wells-next-the-Sea last week, we dropped into RSPB Titchwell on a warm but blustery Norfolk afternoon. Parking in the Car Park we walked down through the trees to the visitor centre, deciding first to take a look at the newly opened Autumn trail that explores the eastern edge of the reserve. There was good viewing across the fresh water lagoon with 8 spoonbills immediately visible, resting in the shadows with a little egret for company.

Heading back in the direction of the visitor centre we watched a Barn Owl standing sentry on a fence post for a few minutes, then walked down the western side of the reserve and spent some time in the Island Hide, watching Avocet, Bar-tailed Godwit and low flying Greylag geese before heading back to the car and on to our hotel in Wells. A nice start to the week.

Spoonbill (8), Avocet (50+), Bar-tailed Godwit (50+), Ruff, Oystercatcher, Snipe (2), Barn Owl, Mute Swan, Greylag Geese (30), Coot
