Splash landing

This Mute Swan made a dramatic landing at WWT London this morning, where I had the pleasure of meeting up with prolific Brooklyn wildlife blogger Matthew Wills who had flown in from New York the day before. Matthew was visiting London ahead of a walking holiday on Dartmoor and we met up to explore the the reserve and talk birds and wildlife.
We had a fine time, saw a fair few birds and caught a glimpse of an elusive Water Vole not five minutes into our walk before visiting the hides out on the reserve. Swifts and Sand Martins filled the skies above the lakes and scrapes where Tufted Ducks, Redshank, and Lapwing dabbled, poked and preened around the islands. We finished our morning talking over coffee and muffins in the company of a rather tame jackdaw whilst feral Rose-ringed Parakeets squawked in the trees above. Thanks for a great morning Matthew and have a terrific time in the west country.
Central London. Really.
