A project created with WSRS members in East Anglia
The idea to build this soundmap came from a discussion at the WSRS East Anglia meeting at Wicken Fen, held in October 2018 and is a work in progress. Over time the Fowlmere Soundmap will become a collection and resource containing the sounds of the reserve through the seasons.
The soundmap below is hosted by Radio Aporee. Click on the red circles to play the sounds.
Fowlmere Nature Reserve (SSSI, 41ha) is a well-loved wildlife oasis set within farmland between the villages of Melbourn and Fowlmere in Cambridgeshire. Its former water-cress beds are now reedbed, fen, chalk grassland and scrub, while the area also holds a small but fine example of a chalk stream, one of the UK’s rarest habitats.
