Martin’s Lights

Puckeridge came out on Sunday evening at the advent of Advent to remember Martin, our local shopkeeper who passed away a couple of years ago and to switch on the Christmas lights that now thread through this ancient village, bought with funds collected in his memory.
The 1st Braughing Scout Band played for the assembled villagers outside The Crown & Falcon pub, voices joining the drums, glocks and horns in chorus, followed by Christmas songs from Starlight Stars behind the ancient hostelry.
With the pub dating from the mid 16th Century it must have seen many a community gathering down the years and that connection with history felt strong as we stood together in the cold as a village, remembering our own Christmases past as the young built seasonal memories of their own.
